Tour Overview

Hiroshima has two world cultural heritage sites and this tour covers both of them.

Hiroshima is world famous as the the first city that suffered the atomic bombing. You will visit the atomic bomb dome, which is a UNESCO world cultural heritage site, hypocenter (ground zero), some monuments in the peace park and the peace museum. With your tour guide’s explanation, you will learn episode and message of each monument, which otherwise you will just pass without knowing anything about. Seeing and knowing what happened in Hiroshima will give us a good chance to think about peace and our good future.

The other destination is Miyajima island. Miyajima Island has Itsukushima shrine, UNESCO world cultural heritage site, and it is famous for its giant orange gate floating in the sea. This gate stands in the sea when the tide is high, and it is on the ground when the tide is low. The high tide time changes every day. Your tour guide will arrange the order of visit to this shrine gate and the atomic-bomb dome to let you see the gate at the best timing possible.
There are lots of wild deer wandering on the island. They are tame and friendly. You can touch them and take pictures with them.

What you can enjoy during this tour is not only sightseeing but also enjoying eating local foods. Hiroshima has lots of delicious local specialties. Oysters, okonomi-yaki, momiji-manju, sake and lemon. Okonomi-yaki is like a ’layered pizza’ (please see photo) with cabbage, bean sprout, noodle, pork and egg.
